Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Omega -3 Fatty Acids are essentailEssential fatty acids are, as the name suggests, essential for our bodies and they must be obtained from food or supplements. Fish oil is a good source of two omega-3 fatty acids known as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Sardines, salmon and mackeral are three good sources in our food. Flax oil contains alpha linoleic acid and flaxseeds can be a useful source of the fresh oil but must be ground down to release the nutrients for digestion.
Omega 3 fatty acids are thought to reduce the triglyceride levels in the blood and prevent platelets becoming sticky thus helping to reduce atherosclerosis (narrowing of the arteries through fatty material collecting on the artery walls).
Skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis may be helped with a fish oil supplement and people who suffer from inflammatory conditions such as arthritis can find some relief.
The two products that I tend to recommend are Morepa Fish Oil capsules and Barleans Flaxseeds.
